Frequently asked questions
How do you play a nonogram?
A nonogram (also called "picross") is a logic puzzle on a grid. The numbers in each row and each column indicate how many consecutive squares are filled in it: with those clues, and never guessing, you deduce which squares get filled in and which are marked as empty. When you complete the grid, a piece of pixel art appears.
In Pixalea there's a new puzzle every day, the same for everyone. With Fill you fill in squares and with Mark you mark with an × the ones you know are empty. If you fill a square that doesn't belong, the app corrects it on its own, counts a mistake and adds 30 seconds to your time, so guessing at random doesn't pay off. The first time you go in to play you'll see an animated tutorial; you can open it again from the "?" button during a game, from the Home screen or from Settings.
Do I need an account?
No. Pixalea is played without an account and offline: the puzzles come included in the app and your progress is saved on your device. You only need an account if you want to compete with your friends: add them and see the ranking of the best time for each day. You can create one with email and password, with Google or with Apple from "Compete with your friends" on the Home screen.
How do I change my username?
Go to your account (Home → "Compete with your friends", or Settings → Your account), type the new name (3 to 16 letters, numbers or underscores) and tap "Save". If it's already taken, the app tells you so you can try another. Bear in mind that your username is public: your friends see it and it appears in the ranking.
How do I delete my account?
From within the app: go to your account and tap "Delete my account"; we'll ask you to confirm. Your account, your profile, your friendships and your results are removed from the server immediately. Your local progress stays on the device and your purchases are not affected. The details are in the Privacy Policy. If you can't get into the app, write to us from the account's email address at hello@opharana.com.
What does "No ads" include?
It's a one-time purchase (you pay just once, it's not a subscription) that removes the app's ad banner forever. Since it's a non-consumable purchase, it stays linked to your store account and you can restore it on a new device. The archive of past puzzles is free for everyone.
What are the "5 tries for today"?
Every day you get one try at the puzzle. If you want to improve your time for the ranking, this purchase gives you five more retries of the daily puzzle on the day you buy it (the grid is cleared and the timer starts from zero; your best time is kept). Tries you don't use that day don't carry over.
What is the video of the day?
On the Home screen, next to your streak, you can watch an ad video from TuIAgencia, the agency of the app's owner, every day. If you watch it five days in a row, on the sixth day you get two tries at the puzzle instead of one. It's voluntary: if you don't watch it, the app works exactly the same.
Why do I see ads for TuIAgencia?
Because the app is free and is funded by the owner's own advertising. Those ads use no personal data and don't track or profile you; that's why the app doesn't ask you for any tracking permission. If you'd rather not see the banner, there's the "No ads" purchase.
I switched phones or deleted the app and lost my progress
Game progress is saved only on your device. If you delete the app or its data, or switch phones without a system backup (iCloud on iOS, Google's backup on Android), that progress is lost and we cannot recover it, because we've never had it.
What isn't lost: your Pixalea account (friends, ranking and profile statistics), which you get back by signing in, and the "No ads" purchase, which is linked to your store account and can be restored on the new device. In the Privacy Policy you'll find the details of what is saved and where.
I found a bug or the app closes on its own
Tell us about it at hello@opharana.com: let us know the device model and the system version, and describe what you were doing when it happened. If you can, attach a screenshot. It helps us enormously.
I paid and it's not showing up. How do I restore my purchase?
First, check that you're using the same store account you bought with (the same Apple ID or the same Google account).
- iOS: open the app's Store and tap "Restore purchases". It may ask you for your Apple ID password.
- Android: the purchase restores itself when you open the app with the Google account that made it. If it doesn't show up, close the app completely and open it again.
Only the "No ads" purchase is restored; the "5 tries for today" are consumable and are applied the moment you buy them. If it still doesn't show up, write to us at hello@opharana.com attaching the Apple or Google receipt.
Refunds are handled by Apple and Google, not by us: you have to request them from the store where the purchase was made.
I want to report an offensive username
Write to us at hello@opharana.com with the username in question and, if you can, a screenshot. We review reports and change or block names that break the rules.
Where do I download the app?
The download links for iOS and Android appear on the home page as soon as the app is available in each store.
